Some moments in history leave such a mark on you, you remember every fact about everything that was going on when it happened. My parents were in school when Kennedy was shot. I’ve heard elders recall what it was like, glued to the TV or radio when Neal Armstrong walked on the moon. My friend Dawn was sitting on the floor of her living room when JR was shot.
It was a Saturday in early September. School had started, but wasn’t yet in full swing. My parents, aunt, uncle and cousin were going to an early matinee. It’s not going to the theatre, I remember the most, or anything leading up to it. It was after the movie that I remember the most. What I had just seen had scared the living daylights out of me, and somehow made me laugh so hard I was about to pee my pants. It was a movie I have seen a hundred times since, but never recapturing the magic of seeing it on the bigscreen. The movie was Ghostbusters.
Thirty years later, we all have that chance to recapture that magical day. Ghostbusters will be re-released in theatres for one week on August 29 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the movie. Do yourself a favor and make plans to see the movie that started it all, spawning a sequel, two cartoons, books, several comic books including one published by IDW and action figures.
