The premise
John Blacksad is a hard-boiled detective with a good heart and a knack for trouble. He lives in a seedy world with good guys, bad guys and some in between. John has just finished a bodyguard gig when he runs into an old friend. While catching up, John and his friend are shaken by a loud explosion outside of their building. What happens next is a tales of murder, deceit, political propaganda and betrayal; if those aren’t Hollywood calling cards, I’ve read the producers all wrong.
Why should it be a movie?
All the characters in Blacksad are anthropomorphic and each animal plays to its kind; as a panther John is inquisitive, stealthy and reserve; the police commissioner is a German Shepard, a family man who upholds the law; a local reporter is a fox, sly, sneaky and good at digging up the dirt. It all works and it’s wonderful. Given John’s willingness to take any case, his life makes for some very interesting scenes on the big screen. The characters in Blacksad are so real they practically breath on everyone page, walk through each panel, it’s amazing. The movie could have it all, murder mysteries, car chases, foot chases, conspiracies, kidnapping, political plots and ultimately payback. The field is wide open especially if producers used animation similar to that of a Pixar film. Yeah that would rock and this comic would be an awesome movie.
