This was the first New York Comic Con GTDEBRIS.COM has covered and we wanted to share with you our pick for best Cosplayer at the Show. We know we’re not a big name in the nerd blogosphere just yet, but we have a clear eye on pop culture and comics, and we are sure that our choice for Best Costume at NYCC 2014 is well deserved!

Although there were countless amazing costumes at the show, both handmade and off-the-shelf, only one blew us away entirely: Lady Thor, Goddess of Thunder by Sarah Jean Maefs (@Peppermonster). For those of you that follow comics, you should know that Marvel recently introduced a new female Thor written by Jason Aaron. By recently, we mean a couple weeks before the Con. That’s what caught our eye most about Sarah’s costume: it was spot on and there was no way in hell she could have pulled it off in a week!

So … how did she know? We asked Thor artist, Russell Dauterman, if he knew how she could have done it. His answer “She had contacted us months in advance asking for every detail of the costume. No joke! ”. Sarah confirmed with us that she had reached out to the entire creative team while developing her masterpiece, and it paid off. The costume was simply unreal. The pictures do not do it justice, but here’s a little taste of why we thought it was so special. AMAZING JOB SARAH!!!
