Win ButlerThere was a time when I thought I was too cool for Arcade Fire. It wasn’t because I listened to their music and didn’t like it. It was because everyone else was listening to their music and liking it. I didn’t realize my pretentiousness at the time, but I was sure I was right. And then I heard, way back in 2005, that David Bowie played with them and my “too cool for Arcade Fire” self was dumbfounded. Why would Bowie play with Arcade Fire?

Years later, after I actually listened to what everyone was saying, I had a big change of heart. That picture of me being a shameless fanboy with my wife and Win Butler illustrates this perfectly. And while I’m not in love with the new record, I am now in love with the band. So when my YouTube feed gave me a suggestion to watch the 2005 performance with Bowie, I was finally ready to appreciate it. And, oh man, how awesome it was. So … I know this video is old news and over a decade old, but it’s a must see. Enjoy and remember: “don’t knock it, until you try it first“. – Dennis Marrero
